Madhya Pradesh is poised to significantly strengthen its energy infrastructure with the signing of three major agreements for the development of 4,000 MW of thermal power capacity. The projects, involving an estimated investment of ₹60,000 crore, will be set up in Anuppur district and are expected to play a crucial role in meeting the state’s growing power demand.
The power plants have been awarded through a competitive Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) bidding process conducted by MP Power Management Company. Of the total capacity, 3,200 MW has been allocated under the main tender, while an additional 800 MW will be developed under a greenshoe option. Torrent Power has emerged as the largest developer with a 1,600 MW allocation, followed by Adani Power and Hindustan Thermal Projects, each securing 800 MW.
To execute the projects, the selected developers will form Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) that will enter into long-term Power Supply Agreements with the state. Beyond strengthening power availability, the projects are expected to generate substantial employment, creating around 3,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs.
The new thermal power plants are targeted to begin supplying electricity by 2030, providing a strong boost to Madhya Pradesh’s energy capacity and supporting sustained industrial and economic growth across the region.
