Maharashtra’s Bold EV Policy: Aiming for 30% Electric Vehicles by 2030

Maharashtra has unveiled a comprehensive Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy for 2025, aiming to achieve 30% EV penetration across the state by 2030. Effective from April 1, 2025, this policy supersedes the 2021 version and outlines ambitious targets for various vehicle segments: 40% for electric two- and three-wheelers, 30% for electric four-wheelers and goods carriers, and 40% for electric buses. Additionally, it aims for 10% of new agricultural vehicle registrations to be electric by 2030.

To facilitate this transition, the policy mandates that all new residential buildings be equipped with EV charging infrastructure, ensuring 100% of parking spaces are charging-ready. Commercial buildings must allocate 50% of parking for EV charging, with existing spaces required to make 20% EV-ready. Charging stations will be installed at 25 km intervals along major highways, and every government office parking area must have at least one charger.

Financial incentives are also introduced, including subsidies up to ₹2 lakh for electric four-wheelers used for transport and ₹20 lakh for electric buses. EVs registered during the policy period will benefit from complete exemption from motor vehicle tax and registration renewal fees. Passenger EVs will receive 100% toll exemption on key expressways like Mumbai–Pune and Mumbai–Nashik.

This policy positions Maharashtra as a leader in India’s EV landscape, promoting sustainable mobility and reducing emissions.
