Maharashtra CM Shinde Declares Toll-Free Travel for Light Vehicles at Major Mumbai Entry Points

Date:

In a significant move for commuters, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the abolition of toll charges for light vehicles at crucial Mumbai entry points. The decision, aimed at easing the financial burden on daily travelers, applies to cars and small vehicles, benefiting thousands of commuters who enter and exit Mumbai each day.

The toll exemption will be applicable at five major toll plazas around Mumbai: Vashi, Airoli, Mulund (Eastern Express Highway), Dahisar (Western Express Highway), and LBS Marg. These entry points are notorious for their heavy congestion, and the new rule is expected to speed up traffic flow, reduce bottlenecks, and improve the overall commuting experience.

Speaking at a press conference, CM Shinde highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader push to support the middle-class population, who face the daily struggle of paying tolls while navigating one of the country’s busiest urban transport networks. He added that the government is working on further infrastructure improvements to ensure smoother transit in the metropolitan region.

A state government committee conducted a detailed study on the toll booths, which revealed the high costs commuter’s bear. This analysis has been key in justifying the toll removal decision. The policy change will be implemented immediately, with local authorities tasked with ensuring compliance and preventing any toll collection for light vehicles at the specified booths.

The decision has garnered widespread support from citizens, with many welcoming the move as a relief to their daily commuting expenses. The CM emphasized that further discussions will be held regarding heavy vehicles and other toll booths across the state.

This development is based on verified government sources and a thorough assessment of toll data by the state’s infrastructure committee.
