Involt Energy Launches Construction of Rajkot Solar Cell Manufacturing Project

Date:

In a significant step for India’s clean energy ambitions, Involt Energy has begun building its first solar cell manufacturing facility in Rajkot, Gujarat, with an initial annual capacity of 1.78 GW. The fully automated plant, equipped with guided vehicle technology, is slated for commissioning by June 2026.

The facility will specialize in producing 182 mm × 210 mm G12R TOPCon solar cells, offering efficiencies between 25.3 percent and 25.4 percent and maximum power outputs ranging from 9.5 W to 9.7 W. Involt Energy plans to expand the site further, adding an extra 3 GW of solar cell capacity and 3 GW of wafer production to meet India’s growing need for domestically manufactured renewable energy components.

“India’s renewable energy market is expanding rapidly, and advanced technologies like TOPCon will enable us to manufacture world-class solar cells locally, reducing import dependence and enhancing energy security,” said Darshit Bhoraniya, Managing Director of Involt Energy. The use of automated guided vehicles will streamline material handling, positioning the plant at the forefront of solar manufacturing innovation.

Under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s domestic content requirement policy, only solar cells made from undiffused wafers will be eligible for incentive programs. This mandate ensures critical processes such as diffusion, printing, and metallisation are completed on Indian soil, reinforcing the country’s burgeoning solar manufacturing sector.
