The Ministry of Finance has reported substantial advancements in India’s logistics sector through the PM Gati Shakti initiative, aiming to bolster infrastructure and optimize transportation nationwide. A total of 434 projects have been identified, categorized into three major economic corridor programs:

  • Energy, Mineral, and Cement Corridors: 192 projects
  • High Traffic Density Corridors: 200 projects
  • Port Connectivity Corridors: 42 projects

These projects represent a combined investment of ₹11.17 trillion, focusing on enhancing multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency.

Significant progress is evident in the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) program. As of October 31, 2024, 91 terminals have been commissioned, and 234 projects have received in-principle approvals. Additionally, 339 applications for new terminals have been submitted, indicating widespread enthusiasm for the initiative.

The government has sanctioned 68 projects covering 6,290 km, with an investment of ₹1.11 trillion. Another 88 projects spanning 10,603 km are currently under appraisal and inter-ministerial review, with a proposed cost of ₹2.25 trillion.

This expansive initiative aligns with the Union Budget 2024-25’s vision of “Viksit Bharat,” prioritizing infrastructure investment as a catalyst for economic growth.
