India’s First Vertical Lift Sea Bridge at Pamban Faces Safety Concerns; Expert Committee Initiated for Review

Date:

The much-anticipated Pamban Vertical Lift Sea Bridge, India’s first of its kind, has hit a roadblock as safety concerns prompt an in-depth review by an appointed expert committee. Set to connect Rameswaram with the mainland, the ambitious project is under scrutiny to ensure structural integrity and operational safety.

The bridge, designed with state-of-the-art technology to allow vertical lifting for ship movement, has been hailed as an engineering marvel. However, recent assessments have raised questions about its durability against extreme weather conditions and the long-term reliability of its lifting mechanism.

In response, the government has formed an expert committee comprising structural engineers, marine specialists, and railway officials to evaluate these concerns thoroughly. The review will focus on addressing potential vulnerabilities and recommending measures to fortify the bridge’s resilience.

“This project is a national asset, and ensuring its safety and operational efficiency is of paramount importance. The expert committee will provide actionable insights to address the concerns,” said a senior official overseeing the project.

Despite the review, authorities remain confident in completing the bridge within the scheduled timeline, emphasizing its role in boosting connectivity and tourism in the region.
