The BRICS nations have taken an important step toward creating a more sustainable and future-ready transport system by adopting a joint resolution on sustainable infrastructure during the 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting held in Nagpur. Hosted under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, the meeting brought together transport ministers, senior officials and technical experts to strengthen cooperation in the sector.
The resolution focuses on promoting environmentally responsible transport infrastructure while encouraging innovation, technology sharing and stronger partnerships among member countries. It also highlights the importance of circular infrastructure practices, efficient resource use and long-term planning to support economic growth without compromising environmental sustainability.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari thanked all participating countries for their constructive support in achieving a consensus. India also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of the initiatives to the next BRICS chairship, reflecting the group’s spirit of mutual respect, equality and collaboration.
The four-day programme included senior officials’ meetings, ministerial discussions, bilateral engagements and cultural events showcasing the diversity of BRICS nations. These interactions helped strengthen dialogue beyond policy discussions and reinforced the importance of collective action in addressing future transport challenges.
As global economies continue to focus on cleaner and more resilient infrastructure, the resolution marks a significant milestone in enhancing cooperation among BRICS countries.
