India Builds Arunachal’s Tallest Dam!

Date:

India has, at last, taken a bold and positive step by starting the construction of the Upper Siang Multipurpose Dam in Arunachal Pradesh. This is a strong move, not just for building more hydropower but for protecting our water security and our future. With China building the large Medog Dam upstream, India needed to act wisely.

The Siang project, capable of generating about 11,000 megawatts, will help control water flow, especially during dry seasons. It will serve as a buffer, giving India more ability to manage floods or sudden surges of water. This is essential for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and even further downstream areas.

Another benefit is that it supports growth and development in Arunachal Pradesh. Local communities will get more income, better infrastructure and more job opportunities. Children will go to better schools, roads will improve and more electricity will brighten homes. All these are signs of progress.

Importantly, building our own dam also gives India a stronger standing in discussions and negotiations with neighbors. It shows resolve and preparedness to safeguard our rights over our rivers. That is good for national pride and international respect.

In conclusion, the Upper Siang Dam project is a wise and forward-looking decision. It balances our needs for power, safety and growth. With careful planning and respect for the environment, we can turn our rivers into sources of hope, strength and lasting prosperity.
