How Infrastructure Upgrades Are Boosting Kashmir’s Apple Industry

Kashmir’s apple industry is witnessing a surge in exports, thanks to improved road infrastructure and expanded controlled atmosphere (CA) storage facilities. With better connectivity, apples are reaching markets faster, ensuring fresher produce for consumers. The expansion of CA storage has further prolonged the shelf life of apples, allowing farmers to fetch better prices and reduce post-harvest losses.

Previously, poor road conditions and a lack of advanced storage facilities led to high wastage and lower earnings for apple growers. However, recent infrastructural upgrades, including the construction of better highways and tunnels, have reduced transportation time, benefiting both farmers and traders. Additionally, an increase in the number of CA storage units has enabled growers to store apples for longer durations without compromising on quality, leading to higher profits.

Exporters are now able to tap into new markets, with Kashmir’s apples making their way to international destinations more efficiently. Experts believe that continued investment in logistics and cold storage will further elevate the region’s apple industry, strengthening its position as India’s leading apple producer.

With these advancements, Kashmir’s apple exports are expected to grow significantly, contributing to the economic well-being of the region’s farming community.
