Hitachi Construction Machinery Taps AI to Transform Mining Efficiency

Date:

Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) has announced a major push toward AI-powered mining optimisation through a strategic US$3 million investment in Canadian tech firm Rithmik Solutions. The partnership aims to enhance real-time equipment monitoring and predictive maintenance across global mining operations.

Rithmik’s advanced AI models analyse live performance data from heavy machinery, including dump trucks and ultra-large hydraulic excavators. During a year-long field trial from August 2024 to July 2025, the technology successfully identified early signs of mechanical issues, allowing operators to prevent costly breakdowns and reduce fuel consumption. This helped significantly cut unplanned downtime while improving operational reliability.

A key benefit of the system is its ability to compare machine behaviour against customised performance baselines rather than relying solely on traditional design values. This approach provides miners with more accurate insights into asset health, enabling data-driven decisions that boost safety and productivity.

The initiative ties into HCM’s broader digital mining strategy under its recently launched LANDCROS Connect Insight platform. By integrating AI-driven analytics with heavy-equipment operations, HCM aims to support a more sustainable and efficient mining ecosystem.

Industry experts see this collaboration as a major step forward in the global shift toward smart, environmentally conscious mining solutions.
