The central government has sanctioned a ₹4,500 crore project for the development of a six-lane national highway connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the Old Pune Highway. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost trade and logistics efficiency in Maharashtra.
The proposed highway will serve as a crucial link between Mumbai’s key port and Pune’s industrial hubs, easing congestion on existing routes. The project, once completed, is expected to facilitate smoother freight movement, benefiting industries and businesses dependent on seamless transportation.
The new corridor is also anticipated to improve road safety and reduce travel costs by providing a faster and more direct route for heavy vehicles. With Maharashtra being a major hub for trade, manufacturing, and logistics, this development is expected to significantly contribute to economic growth.
Authorities emphasize that the project aligns with the government’s vision of strengthening the country’s highway network, improving connectivity, and fostering industrial development. Construction is expected to commence soon, with a targeted timeline for completion.
This strategic infrastructure boost will not only enhance mobility but also provide a much-needed upgrade to Maharashtra’s transportation network.
