Foundation Stone Laid for Advanced Paediatric Hospital and Research Hub in Chennai

Date:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the groundwork for a new advanced children’s hospital and research facility in Guindy, Chennai, on 27 January 2026. The upcoming institution, planned within the King Institute premises, will play a key role in strengthening specialised healthcare services for children across the state.

The proposed hospital will have a capacity of around 750 beds and is being developed with an investment of approximately ₹417 crore. Designed as a multi-storey structure spread over 6.5 acres, the building will extend across six levels and accommodate multiple paediatric departments. It will also include a dedicated Centre for Excellence focused on advanced treatment, medical education, and clinical research.

The ceremony was attended by several senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, South Chennai MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian, and Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, among others.

Once completed, the hospital will be academically linked to Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, supporting specialised training and research initiatives. The new facility is expected to greatly improve access to high-quality child healthcare while reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s reputation as a leader in public health infrastructure and medical innovation.
