CM Devendra Fadnavis Directs PMRDA to Propose Underground Tunnel Project Between Yerawada and Katraj

Date:

Pune is set to witness a major infrastructure upgrade as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to draft a proposal for an underground tunnel project connecting Yerawada and Katraj.

The proposed twin-tunnel system aims to decongest traffic between the northern and southern parts of Pune, significantly reducing travel time along the 15 km stretch. With heavy traffic being a persistent issue, the tunnel project will provide relief to daily commuters and enhance road connectivity.

PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase confirmed that the proposal has received in-principle approval. A detailed project report (DPR) and feasibility study will soon be initiated. The tunnel will feature three lanes in each direction, linking key roads across the city.

In addition to the tunnel project, major infrastructure developments have been approved. This includes Rs 636.84 crore for road networks to connect the upcoming Purandar airport, Rs 203 crore for cement roads in the Ranjangaon and Hinjewadi industrial zones, and Rs 1,526 crore for urban growth centre road development.

With these advancements, Pune’s road infrastructure is set for a transformative leap, boosting connectivity and easing urban mobility.
