The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved ₹5,805 crore for constructing a 47.9 km stretch of the proposed 77.4 km Nashik Ring Road, giving a major push to the long-awaited infrastructure project. This approval comes at a crucial time as the city prepares for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which will significantly increase traffic volumes.
Under the funding arrangement, MoRTH will finance the construction of the 48 km portion, while the Maharashtra state government will handle land acquisition and the development of the remaining 29.5 km. The Maharashtra State Industrial Development Corporation (MSIDC) has been appointed as the implementing agency.
The upcoming four-lane corridor, planned with six-lane infrastructure and a 60-metre right-of-way, will allow vehicles to travel at speeds up to 100 km/h. The design includes three major bridges, 18 minor bridges, 29 vehicular underpasses and seven viaducts. The project involves 305 hectares of land spread across 18 villages and around 27 houses will need to be demolished to accommodate the alignment.
To ensure smooth progress, the route avoids sensitive zones such as the Deolali military cantonment and the Eklahara power plant. It will also integrate with several major expressways, including the proposed Tawa–Nashik and Nashik–Chennai expressways. Once completed, the ring road is expected to ease congestion within Nashik city, enhance freight movement, reduce travel times and support long-term economic growth in the region.
