In a landmark move towards heritage preservation, the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC) has floated a tender worth ₹550.61 crore for the construction of a protection wall, approach road, and allied infrastructure around the historically significant site of Bhon, in Sangrampur Taluka, Buldhana.
This project is part of the larger “Jigaon Project,” aimed at conserving the ancient Bhon culture, which is threatened by submergence due to rising water levels. The works are designed not only to physically protect the site but also to improve accessibility, allowing scholars, tourists and local communities easier access to the site’s historic relics and archaeological remains.
The scope includes constructing a robust retaining/protection wall, laying approach roads to connect the site with nearby thoroughfares, and installing necessary conservation and drainage infrastructure to ensure long-term durability of the cultural heritage zone.
Bidders must submit their proposals by 20 October 2025, after which VIDC will evaluate tenders based on design, cost, durability, and ability to preserve the ancient features. This initiative marks a significant step in balancing development with cultural conservation in Vidarbha.
