Nashik Joins Hands with ITDP to Rethink Urban Mobility

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has embarked on a forward-looking partnership with the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) India, aiming to unveil a sustainable, inclusive urban mobility framework for the city. On August 17, 2025, NMC Commissioner Manisha Khatri and ITDP India Managing Director Aswathy Dilip inked a five‑year Memorandum of Understanding to spearhead improvements in traffic systems, junction design, parking management, road layouts and crucially, enhance accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

Under this collaboration, ITDP will provide technical expertise, capacity building and policy support to help transform Nashik’s streets into safer, more people‑centric public spaces. The initiative encompasses the formulation of an active mobility policy developed in consultation with citizens, the traffic police, regional transport offices and other key stakeholders. Both online and offline surveys will ensure community feedback is woven into the planning process.

“Given the city’s rapid growth, designing safe, inclusive streets is non‑negotiable, this partnership brings global best practices tailored to Nashik’s needs,” said Commissioner Khatri. Aswathy Dilip affirmed that the collaboration aims to deliver long‑term, sustainable changes that elevate quality of life, reduce pollution and position Nashik as a model city for urban transportation in India.
