Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during her visit to Ladakh on June 15, 2025, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holistic development in the region. A centerpiece of her agenda is the expansion of BharatNet and deployment of new mobile towers to guarantee digital connectivity across every panchayat in Ladakh. At a credit‑outreach event organized by the UT Level Bankers Committee in Leh, Sitharaman highlighted the transformative power of robust digital infrastructure in driving economic inclusion and tourism. Emphasizing the JAM trinity—Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and mobile, she noted its pivotal role in empowering remote communities via direct benefit transfers and credit accessibility.
Additionally, the Finance Minister announced ₹5.12 crore in loans to 25 local entrepreneurs under central schemes, bolstering small businesses, handicrafts and homestays. Other infrastructure projects such as all‑weather tunnels, solar‑renewable energy, green hydrogen, and electric buses in Leh are underway to further integrate Ladakh into India’s broader development trajectory.
Altogether, these initiatives form a major stride in the Digital India mission, aimed at uplifting remote regions like Ladakh by combining connectivity, sustainable development and financial empowerment under one strategic vision.
