3D-Printed Homes Could Revolutionize Housing, Say Experts as Godrej Unveils Pune Villa

Date:

Godrej Properties has announced the launch of a 3D-printed ground-plus-one villa at its Godrej Eden Estate project in Maan Hinjewadi, Pune, in collaboration with Tvasta Engineering. The villa, constructed using additive manufacturing techniques, was completed in just four months, showcasing the speed and efficiency of 3D printing in construction.

While 3D-printed buildings currently involve higher costs due to limited scale and high initial investments, experts believe that the technology offers significant time savings, which could lead to cost efficiencies in the long run. “As adoption increases and material supply chains develop, 3D printing could become a cost-effective solution for mass housing and rapid infrastructure development,” said Rahul Bahl, Managing Director of Krishna Buildestates Pvt Ltd.

The adoption of 3D-printed construction in India is still in its early stages. In April 2023, L&T built India’s first public 3D-printed post office in Bengaluru, followed by a set of six high-end villas in August 2024.

Industry experts predict that as materials advance and policies adapt, 3D printing could play a crucial role in revolutionizing housing. “The sector remains in its infancy but has strong potential for expansion,” noted Sahir Choudhary, Director at Habitat Architects.
