Maersk and Cochin Shipyard Sign MoU for Maritime Growth in India

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on ship repair, maintenance, and construction in India. This strategic partnership aligns with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and the recent Union Budget FY 2025-26, which aims to position India among the top five global maritime hubs.

Under the agreement, Maersk will bring its global fleet expertise to enhance CSL’s capabilities, focusing on container ship maintenance, repair, and drydocking operations. The collaboration will not only strengthen India’s shipbuilding industry but also contribute to maritime infrastructure development.

Additionally, the MoU includes joint training programs on responsible practices and skill development initiatives for CSL employees and Maersk seafarers. This effort aims to upskill the workforce, ensuring adherence to global maritime standards.

With the Indian government’s push for self-reliance in maritime operations, this partnership is expected to boost domestic shipbuilding and repair capabilities, fostering economic growth and technological advancements. The alliance underscores India’s growing significance in the global maritime sector while enhancing its competitiveness on the international stage.
