₹10,000 Crore Sanctioned in Union Budget to Strengthen Rail Infrastructure in Bihar

Date:

At a ceremony at Karpoori Gram railway station, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Union Budget 2025‑26 has allocated ₹10,000 crore specifically for upgrading rail infrastructure in Bihar.

This funding comes on the heels of an intensive effort to modernise the state’s rail network—over 34,000 km of new lines have been laid in the past decade, and around 1,300 stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat programme. As part of ongoing modernisation, Karpoori Gram station has been shifted to the Samastipur division, with facilities such as upgraded amenities and improved connectivity undergoing refurbishments.

The budget support is set to catalyse several major infrastructure projects, including:

  • Doubling and new lines, such as the Bhagalpur–Jamalpur, Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir, and others in the pipeline.

  • Redevelopment of 98 more stations.

  • Establishing advanced control rooms and safety upgrades at key junctions like Samastipur and Jamalpur.

Vaishnaw also mentioned four upcoming Amrit Bharat trains, along with enhanced station amenities and bridge replacements, all under the umbrella of this ₹10,000 crore push.

This significant allocation signals the Centre’s focus on empowering regional connectivity, passenger convenience, and accelerating economic growth through robust rail infrastructure in Bihar.
