In Thirumangalam, Tamil Nadu, a new rail overbridge (ROB) is being built to ease daily life and traffic. The 582-metre structure, costing about Rs 23.06 crore, is set to be finished by December.
This overbridge will connect the Muthuramalinga Thevar Statue Junction with Kamarajarpuram on Old Airport Road. As of now, about 470 meters are being built by the highways department and the remaining 112 meters will be constructed by the Southern Railway.
Why does this matter? The level crossing on the busy Madurai–Thirumangalam line often causes long delays. Gate closures affect residents, students and commuters trying to reach the airport or nearby districts. Once the ROB is ready, those delays will be reduced.
The bridge will be 12 meters wide, including space for road vehicles. Though there were delays in land acquisition, work is now moving ahead steadily.
For people in Thirumangalam and nearby areas, this overbridge is more than concrete and steel. It is relief. It is smoother travel. It is time saved. As December approaches, anticipation grows. When it opens, daily commutes will be easier and the region will be better connected—a welcome step forward in infrastructure and service to its people.
