State Makes In-Built Telecom Infrastructure Mandatory for New Buildings

Date:

In a move aimed at boosting digital readiness, the state government has announced that all new buildings must include in-built telecom infrastructure as part of their design and construction. The directive, officials said, is intended to ensure seamless connectivity for residents and businesses while reducing the need for disruptive post-construction modifications.

Under the new mandate, builders will be required to integrate telecom ducts, cable pathways, and designated equipment spaces within residential, commercial, and institutional projects. Authorities believe the step will not only improve the quality of broadband and mobile services but also future-proof buildings as demand for high-speed data continues to grow.

The policy aligns with the government’s broader vision of strengthening digital infrastructure across urban and semi-urban areas. By embedding telecom facilities at the construction stage, the state seeks to minimize network blackspots and ease the rollout of 5G and other next-generation technologies.

Industry experts have welcomed the move, calling it a proactive measure to support smart cities and digital ecosystems. They note that integrated telecom infrastructure will enhance property values, improve user experience, and help accelerate India’s transition to a more connected economy.
