Date:

In a landmark collaboration, Reliance Industries has teamed up with Nvidia to build a robust AI infrastructure in India, marking a significant stride in the nation’s journey toward becoming an AI powerhouse. This partnership aims to develop a foundational large language model tailored to India’s diverse linguistic landscape, catering specifically to generative AI applications designed for Indian users.

Nvidia will provide its cutting-edge GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip along with access to the Nvidia DGX Cloud, an advanced AI supercomputing service. This technology represents a major leap in computing capabilities, featuring enhanced performance and substantial memory bandwidth. Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, highlighted that this infrastructure will empower Reliance to create large language models specifically designed for the Indian populace.

The initiative is expected to serve Reliance Jio Infocomm’s extensive customer base of approximately 450 million, enabling the company to deliver innovative AI applications and energy-efficient infrastructure to scientists, developers, and startups across the country. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, remarked on the transformative potential of this project, likening it to the revolutionary impact of Jio on India’s digital landscape.

Moreover, the AI infrastructure will be hosted in advanced data centers, with plans for expansion to accommodate up to 2,000 MW of computing power. As part of this endeavor, Jio will manage execution, leveraging its experience across various technologies including mobile telephony and 5G networks. This collaboration not only strengthens Reliance’s digital strategy but also promises to be a catalyst for widespread technological growth in India.
