Powering the Future: Why India’s Renewable Story Needs Smarter Forecasting and Stronger Infrastructure

Date:

India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing renewable energy markets in the world, with solar and wind capacity expanding at record speed. Yet experts caution that the country’s green energy story cannot reach its full potential without better forecasting systems and stronger grid infrastructure.

The challenge lies in the variability of renewable power. Sudden changes in wind speed or cloud cover can cause fluctuations that the current grid struggles to absorb. Without accurate forecasting and robust transmission networks, renewable energy often goes underutilized, leading to both economic and environmental inefficiencies.

Industry specialists stress the need for advanced weather modeling, AI-driven forecasting tools, and flexible storage solutions such as battery systems to balance supply and demand. At the same time, expanding transmission lines and modernizing grid infrastructure are essential to carry clean power from generation sites—often located in remote areas—to major consumption centers.

With India targeting ambitious renewable energy goals under its climate commitments, policymakers and industry leaders agree that forecasting and infrastructure must become priority investments. Only by strengthening these foundations can India ensure that its renewable energy revolution is reliable, sustainable, and capable of powering inclusive growth.
