Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 September 2025 inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for an array of infrastructure, healthcare, and industrial projects across Assam amounting to around ₹18,530 crore.
Speaking at Mangaldoi in Darrang district, the PM said Assam is among India’s fastest-growing states, and that the country is advancing unitedly towards “Viksit Bharat,” with the North East playing a key role. Key among the launches are:

A new Medical College & Hospital in Darrang, together with a GNM school and B.Sc Nursing college to bolster healthcare infrastructure.

Two major connectivity projects: the Narengi-Kuruwa Bridge (~2.9 km, ~₹1,200 crore) and the Guwahati Ring Road (~118.5 km, ~₹4,530 crore), aimed at reducing congestion and improving access within Assam and connectivity with neighbouring Meghalaya.

Industrial & green-energy initiatives including a bamboo-based bioethanol plant worth over ₹5,000 crore and a large Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit at Numaligarh (Golaghat), projected to enhance local value chains.
Modi emphasized that rapid development requires strong connectivity and investment in health, especially for youth. He affirmed that the coming years belong to the East and North East, underscoring the government’s push to integrate the region more deeply into India’s growth trajectory.
