Odisha Declares 21 New NACs to Strengthen Urban Infrastructure and Services

Date:

In a significant step towards balanced urban growth, the Odisha government has announced the creation of 21 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) across the state. This decision is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving essential services in semi-urban and rapidly developing regions.

According to official sources, these new NACs will enable structured planning for roads, water supply, sanitation, and housing, ensuring better facilities for citizens in emerging urban clusters. The move is also expected to streamline governance by bringing these areas under formal urban administrative frameworks.

State officials emphasized that the formation of these NACs reflects Odisha’s proactive approach to urbanisation. With rural-to-urban migration on the rise, the government seeks to ensure that smaller towns are not left behind in the push for modernization. The NAC status will provide access to state and central schemes for infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood support.

Experts believe this step will boost local economies, create employment, and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents. By focusing on decentralised governance and people-centric planning, Odisha is positioning itself as a model for inclusive urban development in eastern India.
