North East Infrastructure Soars: 16,200 km Highways, 777 km Rail & 80,900 km Rural Roads Delivered

Date:

In a major connectivity leap across India’s North Eastern Region (NER), the government has completed 16,207 km of national highways, alongside 80,933 km of rural roads, under PMGSY, linking thousands of villages and building over 2,100 rural bridges. Rail infrastructure also saw significant momentum, with 777 km of rail projects finalized, reinforcing the region’s network. Under the UDAN scheme, 90 new air routes have been operationalized, further enhancing regional access.

Officials attribute this progress to coordinated implementation through flagship programmes like PM‑GatiShakti and support from ministries such as MDoNER, MoRTH and Civil Aviation. These developments mark transformative socio‑economic impacts, accelerating movement of goods, boosting trade and fostering tourism and employment opportunities across the northeastern states. The combined upgrades; road, rail, rural and air, signify one of the most comprehensive infrastructure drives in recent times for the NER.
