The National Capital Region is set for a major boost in public transport with the proposed addition of two new Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors. These corridors are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion by shifting nearly two lakh vehicles off the roads, offering commuters a faster and more reliable travel option.
The proposed routes include the Delhi–Panipat–Karnal and Delhi–Gurgaon–Bawal corridors. Once operational, travel time between Delhi and Karnal could be reduced to around 90 minutes, while Murthal may be reachable in just 30 minutes. The Delhi–Gurgaon–Bawal corridor will connect important residential, commercial and industrial hubs such as Gurgaon, Manesar and Bawal, improving regional connectivity.
Officials estimate that the expansion of the RRTS network will increase public transport usage substantially, encouraging commuters to move away from private vehicles. This shift is expected to ease pressure on highways, reduce fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions across the region.
The upcoming corridors are also planned to integrate with existing metro and railway networks, ensuring seamless last-mile connectivity. With high-speed trains, modern stations and sustainable infrastructure, the RRTS system aims to support the growing population and economic activity of the NCR.
Overall, the new RRTS corridors represent a significant step toward sustainable urban mobility, cleaner air and a smoother daily commute for millions of residents.
