Nagpur Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Public Space Encroachments, Fines Nearly ₹1.16 Crore

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has intensified its efforts to reclaim public spaces from unauthorized construction material dumping. Between January 1 and June 30, 2025, the civic body penalized 4,890 individuals and builders for occupying public areas with construction debris, resulting in a total fine collection of ₹1.16 crore.

Details of the Enforcement Drive
Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, NMC’s enforcement drive targeted both individual citizens and builders who left construction materials unattended on roads, footpaths, and open plots beyond the permissible 48-hour window. Violators faced fines of ₹2,000 for individuals and ₹10,000 for builders.

Zone-wise Breakdown
The Laxmi Nagar zone recorded the highest number of violations, with 939 individuals and 69 builders penalized, amounting to over ₹25 lakh in fines. Other zones with significant enforcement actions included Dharampeth, Satranjipura, and Ashi Nagar.

Ongoing Vigilance
NMC has emphasized that this crackdown is part of its broader initiative to maintain cleanliness and ensure pedestrian-friendly zones across all city areas. The civic body has warned that such enforcement actions will continue to deter public space encroachments and promote urban discipline.
