Model City Logistics Plans Finalized for Bengaluru and Delhi to Enhance Freight Efficiency

Date:

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has finalized Model City Logistics Plans (MCLPs) for Bengaluru and Delhi, aiming to revolutionize urban freight management. These plans are designed to optimize freight efficiency, reduce congestion, and minimize environmental impact in two of India’s busiest metropolitan areas.

The MCLPs are part of a broader initiative to streamline urban logistics through data-driven planning and infrastructure development. Key aspects include creating dedicated logistics hubs, enhancing last-mile connectivity, and deploying sustainable technologies such as electric vehicles for freight transport. The plans also focus on reducing turnaround times for deliveries and lowering the carbon footprint of urban logistics operations.

Bengaluru and Delhi were chosen as pilot cities due to their high freight volumes and critical role in India’s economic landscape. Insights gained from implementing the MCLPs in these cities will serve as a framework for replicating the model across other urban centers in India.

These plans are expected to not only improve the efficiency of goods movement but also contribute to better air quality and urban livability. The government is optimistic that the initiative will bolster economic growth while aligning with its commitment to sustainability and urban development.
