LG Electronics is set to bolster its manufacturing presence in India with plans to establish a third factory, marking its first major expansion since completing its Pune facility in 2006. The decision comes as domestic demand surges in India’s rapidly growing home appliance market. Having entered the Indian market in 1997, LG currently operates factories in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and Pune, Maharashtra. The Noida facility produces refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners, while Pune specialises in similar appliances and televisions.
In 2022, LG invested Rs 2 billion to expand Pune’s capabilities, adding a production line for side-by-side refrigerators, boosting its annual capacity by 1,00,000 units. India’s low home appliance penetration presents significant growth opportunities. LG is also exploring subscription-based home appliance services and strengthening exports to the Middle East and Africa from its Indian factories.
