Kerala’s Power Department has announced plans to allocate 50–60 acres of land near the Vizhinjam Port to accelerate the state’s green hydrogen ecosystem. The move aims to build a strategic logistics hub for the production and bunkering of Green Methanol and Green Ammonia, strengthening Kerala’s position in India’s clean energy transition.
Officials confirmed that the land will be identified in consultation with the Revenue Department to develop dedicated Green Hydrogen Hubs supporting large-scale production, storage, and refuelling infrastructure. These hubs are expected to play a critical role in enabling cleaner maritime operations and industrial applications.
The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (Anert) has been authorised to draft detailed project proposals. The initiative falls under the Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster (HVIC), which received approval from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in July 2025.
As part of HVIC, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will function as key centres for hydrogen production, storage, and refuelling stations. “Allocation of minimum 50–60 acres of land near Vizhinjam Port for the purposes of bunkering of Green Methanol and Green Ammonia will be identified,” the Power Department said.
Kerala expects the project to boost green fuel logistics and attract investments in sustainable energy infrastructure.
