Indonesia Expedited Construction of 100 Bulog Warehouses via Joint Decree

Date:

The Indonesian government has fast-tracked the construction of 100 new warehouses for the State Logistics Agency Bulog, following the signing of a joint ministerial decree. The move aims to strengthen the country’s food logistics infrastructure and improve crop absorption from farmers.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said the acceleration comes from a presidential directive by President Prabowo Subianto, emphasizing the state’s commitment to bolstering its food supply chain. The decree was signed by top officials including the Agriculture Minister & National Food Agency head Andi Amran Sulaiman, Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian, BP BUMN chief Dony Oskaria, and a Finance Ministry representative.

Set to be built in food-producing regions across Indonesia, the warehouses will be developed in phases, backed by a Rp 5 trillion (~US$291 million) budget. The government says this infrastructure push is vital in light of projected growth in rice production—34.77 million tonnes in 2025 compared to 30 million tonnes the previous year.

By expanding its storage capacity, Bulog aims to better absorb and stabilize the supply of unhusked rice and corn from farmers, helping smooth out harvest surpluses and strengthening national food security.
