India’s construction sector, experiencing exponential growth, is projected to reach a staggering $1.4 trillion by 2047, according to Shailesh Kumar Agarwal, Executive Director of the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council. Speaking at the Asia Low-Carbon Building Transition (ALCBT) Project event, Agarwal emphasized the need for sustainable construction practices to reduce carbon emissions, citing rapid urbanization and high operational energy usage in the sector. He urged the adoption of low-carbon materials and recycling practices to create a sustainable future.
The orientation program for master trainers on “Low-Carbon Building Transition for Building Materials Manufacturers & Technology Providers” was organized by FICCI in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The initiative, supported by Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), is being implemented in five Asian countries, including India.
Highlighting the Indo-German Green and Sustainable Development Partnership, Taina Dyckhoff, Head of Environment Division, German Embassy, stated that this collaboration targets climate mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation. Pravatanalini Samal, Director at the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, underlined the significant energy demand in building cooling systems, while Soumya Garnaik from GGGI revealed plans to train over 2,100 professionals on low-carbon building practices in the next two years, paving the way for a greener future.
