India Must Build Its Foundational Models; Essential to Have AI Talent and Infrastructure to Compete: Perplexity CEO

Date:

India must focus on developing its foundational AI models and investing in talent and infrastructure if it is to remain competitive in the global artificial intelligence race, says the CEO of Perplexity AI. Speaking at a recent tech summit, the CEO emphasized that the country’s AI ambitions cannot be realized without robust foundational models, which are the building blocks for advanced machine learning applications.

According to the CEO, while India has made great strides in adopting AI technology, there is a critical need to nurture AI talent and build a solid infrastructure to support innovation. The lack of adequate resources in research, development, and computing power could hinder the nation’s ability to lead in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

To remain globally competitive, India must not only cultivate homegrown AI expertise but also invest in scalable infrastructure and research capabilities, similar to what is seen in leading AI hubs like the U.S. and China. The CEO’s remarks come at a time when global AI competition is intensifying, and the stakes for technological leadership are higher than ever.
