India Accelerates Mega-Infrastructure Rollout to Realize “Viksit Bharat 2047” Vision

Date:

In a bold move toward the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, the Indian government has announced a sweeping initiative to fast-track mega-infrastructure projects, including access-controlled highways, bullet train corridors, and large-scale shipbuilding yards to fuel economic growth.

A high-level committee has mandated that all ministries bundle and expedite approvals for transformative projects like interstate highways with controlled access, streamlining processes for speedier clearances. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is spearheading efforts to construct 50,000 km of access-controlled highways over the next 10–12 years, mobilizing investments exceeding ₹20 lakh crore, with a significant portion expected from the private sector.

Simultaneously, both the Shipping and Railways Ministries are prioritizing the expansion of capacity and the development of world-class infrastructure, including high-speed rail lines and mega shipbuilding hubs, tailored to meet India’s infrastructure needs by 2047.

This strategic acceleration in infrastructure delivery reflects India’s commitment to sustaining its strong economic momentum—evident in its robust 7.8% first-quarter growth—amid global headwinds and geopolitical pressures
