Green Hopes for Uttar Pradesh

Date:

Uttar Pradesh has taken a commendable step towards sustainable development by starting the construction of 202 kilometers of rural roads using the innovative MSS+ technology developed by CSIR-CRRI. Unlike traditional methods, this approach does not require heating bitumen and aggregates, making it possible to build roads in any season while saving energy and cutting down pollution. The outcome is stronger, longer-lasting roads that are also environmentally friendly.

A recent inspection of one such road in Gonda district revealed impressive results. Officials observed not only the durability of the surface but also its potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions. Such projects align perfectly with India’s vision of sustainable infrastructure and its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Rural Road Development Authority, 38 roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are already being built using this method, featuring a durable 30 mm top layer. The success of these roads is expected to inspire the wider adoption of MSS+ technology across the state, paving the way for a cleaner and stronger rural road network.

This initiative is more than just road construction; it is a model of how science and innovation can work hand in hand with governance to deliver lasting benefits. By embracing such green technology, Uttar Pradesh is not only improving connectivity but is also setting an example for sustainable growth in rural India.
