From Mud Walls to Strong Homes

Date:

The Goa government has nearly completed building 250 of the promised 254 homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This is an impressive achievement for rural families in Goa, who have long needed safe and secure housing. With a total investment of ₹3.4 crore, the state has shown careful planning and access to central and state funding at a 60:40 ratio.

This effort is especially important in Goa, where the cost of building a modest 50 sq metre home can reach ₹10–15 lakh. By almost meeting its goal, Goa is ensuring that more families will soon enjoy better living conditions. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s government is surveying new beneficiaries, making sure that the next group of deserving households can benefit in the coming financial year.

For many families, like those in remote Bicholim taluka, poor housing meant mud walls and rain causing danger. Thanks to PMAY, they now have solid homes with sturdy walls and safe roofs. This is the very heart of the scheme, improving lives. This achievement deserves praise and shows how state and central support can bring real change where it matters.
