Expert Opinion: India Must Secure Indus Waters Through Big Projects

Date:

India’s need to build strong infrastructure to hold Indus waters is very important now. A legal expert recently said that Karnataka and India must plan big projects like dams and reservoirs to use the water from the Indus system better. Without good infrastructure, much of this water flows away unused and India loses a valuable natural resource.

As per the Indus Waters Treaty signed with Pakistan in 1960, India can use water from three rivers – Ravi, Beas and Sutlej – for its own use. But the expert says India hasn’t built enough large-scale projects to fully use this right. This leads to water flowing into Pakistan even though India is allowed to keep it.

The legal expert strongly believes that instead of letting water go waste, India must take action. States like Karnataka should work with the central government to build proper storage and canal systems. This is not just a legal right but also a smart move for water security, farming and power generation.

If India delays such projects, it will keep losing water that could help our own people. So, planning and building these major infrastructure projects should be a top priority for the country now.
