EcoYou Transforms 22 Million Tonnes of Agro-Waste into Green Building Materials, Fueling $240 Million Rural Impact

Date:

EcoYou, an initiative by Ecoboard Industries Limited, has revolutionized sustainable construction in India by converting 22 million tonnes of agricultural waste into eco-friendly building materials. This transformation has generated approximately $240 million in rural economic impact, benefiting farmers, artisans, and carpenters through enhanced employment opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.

The company’s flagship product, EcoBoard, is crafted from natural fibers such as wheat straw, rice husk, cotton stalk, coconut husk, and sugarcane bagasse. These boards serve as sustainable alternatives to conventional materials like plywood and MDF, offering applications in partitions, ceilings, flooring, and furniture. Notably, EcoYou’s operations have contributed to the preservation of over 10 million trees and the avoidance of an estimated 116 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions by mitigating crop burning and deforestation.

Complementing its materials division, EcoYou’s EcoEnergy sector focuses on treating industrial solid and liquid waste to generate clean energy. Utilizing Sulzer-based Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) technology, the company has established over 125 large-scale projects globally, boasting a capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters and the potential to produce 0.5 million tonnes of compressed biogas annually. This initiative not only reduces fossil fuel dependency but also saves approximately 0.5 million tonnes of coal per year.

Looking ahead, EcoYou aims to expand its production capacity and forge deeper collaborations with architects, builders, corporates, government agencies, and international organizations. By doing so, the company seeks to scale responsible construction practices and contribute significantly to global Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.
