In a leap toward sustainable urban transit, Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 300 new electric DTC buses from East Vinod Nagar Bus Depot, while also inaugurating a major six-lane flyover between Nand Nagri and Gagan Cinema. The dual rollout marks a bold push to ease congestion, expand connectivity and cut pollution across the city.
Designed in collaboration with IIT Delhi, the new bus routes have been rationalised to ensure that even Yamuna-side and border regions are seamlessly linked with core areas. Gupta emphasised that this will prevent passenger inconvenience and reduce operational losses for DTC. Over the next 12–18 months, she pledged, Delhi’s entire public bus fleet will transition to electric, aligning with the administration’s “Green Delhi – Clean Delhi” mission.
The newly inaugurated flyover, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹180 crore, is expected to carry over one lakh vehicles daily, significantly smoothing traffic flow between these crucial zones. The project had been delayed by 16 months over clearance issues concerning 27 trees but was expedited following systematic handling of permissions by the current government. Public Works Department officials remarked that the infrastructure upgrade will pay dividends in reduced travel time, reduced emissions and better quality of life for residents.
With the twin launch of green buses and vital road infrastructure, Delhi is setting the stage for a new era in urban mobility, one that aspires to be cleaner, more efficient and equitably connected.
