The Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is set to transform long-distance travel across North India, with the project expected to be completed by March 2026. Once operational, the high-speed corridor will cut the travel time between Delhi and Katra to just six hours, a significant improvement from the current 14 hours or more. This expressway is designed as a modern, access-controlled greenfield highway that will boost connectivity, tourism and regional development.
Stretching across Haryana, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, the expressway will directly link the national capital with major cultural and spiritual destinations, including Amritsar and Katra. The route will not only make pilgrimages to the Vaishno Devi shrine considerably easier but will also improve road travel for millions of commuters and transporters who move goods across these states.
The project is being developed with advanced engineering standards, featuring multiple lanes, grade separators, service roads and smart traffic systems to ensure smooth and safe travel. By enhancing the movement of people and freight, the expressway is expected to strengthen trade, create employment opportunities and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
Although some stretches have faced delays due to land acquisition challenges, especially in parts of Punjab, authorities remain confident that the expressway will be completed within the revised timeline. When fully functional, the Delhi–Katra Expressway will stand as one of India’s most important infrastructure achievements, drastically improving connectivity between key northern states.
