The Delhi Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Reserve Bank of India to support the rejuvenation of the Yamuna and accelerate urban infrastructure development in the national capital. The collaboration marks a significant step toward addressing environmental degradation while strengthening civic infrastructure.
Under the MoU, the RBI will extend technical and advisory support for projects focused on river restoration, wastewater management, and sustainable urban planning. The partnership is expected to facilitate better coordination, financing mechanisms, and implementation frameworks for long-pending initiatives aimed at improving water quality and riverfront ecology.
Officials said the agreement also covers broader infrastructure upgrades, including drainage systems, sewage treatment capacity, and climate-resilient urban assets. By leveraging RBI’s institutional expertise, the Delhi government aims to enhance project efficiency, transparency, and long-term outcomes.
Urban planners and environmental experts welcomed the move, noting that rejuvenating the Yamuna requires integrated solutions spanning pollution control, sewage interception, and continuous monitoring. The MoU is expected to help align funding, timelines, and accountability across agencies.
The initiative underscores Delhi’s renewed focus on sustainable development—combining environmental restoration with infrastructure modernization—to improve public health, urban resilience, and quality of life for residents.
