Centre Races to Clear Roadblocks in 11 Major Infrastructure Projects Across Five States

Date:

A high-level review chaired by DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Bhatia on June 24 brought focus to persistent hurdles affecting 11 major infrastructure projects across Jharkhand, Sikkim, Nagaland, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, collectively valued at over ₹34,213 crore.

In Jharkhand alone, officials examined 18 critical issues spanning key initiatives such as the Patratu Thermal Power Station expansion Phase‑I. Neighboring Northeastern states also came under scrutiny: two project snags in Sikkim (₹943 crore), three in Nagaland, one in Assam, and seven issues tied to three projects—including a ₹1,000 crore private sector venture by GeoEnpro Petroleum—in Arunachal Pradesh.

The meeting convened state governments, central ministries, and project promoters, leveraging the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) to streamline inter-agency collaboration. PMG support is expected to fast-track approvals, clear land acquisition blockages, and align timelines for engineering, procurement, and implementation.

Beyond resolving individual bottlenecks, the Centre aims to de-risk private investment, elevate regional infrastructure, and drive inclusive growth in underserved Northeastern and tribal areas. The comprehensive ₹75,800 crore review underscores the government’s urgency to ensure mega-projects stay on course and deliver strategic economic benefits.
