The Union Cabinet has cleared two major railway construction projects in Gujarat’s Kutch region, approving the 81.77 km Desalpar–Hajipir–Luna line and the 62.69 km Vayor–Lakhpat line. Along with the proposed 24.65 km Bhuj–Naliya extension to Vayor and the 24.88 km Naliya–Jakhau Port line, these initiatives collectively add 194 km to the railway network at an estimated cost of ₹3,375 crore.
Designed to enhance the movement of Kutch’s high-value minerals—limestone and bentonite clay—the new lines will ease road congestion and reduce logistics costs for industries. Kutch, being a leading producer of these essential minerals, is expected to see major economic benefits from improved rail connectivity.
The Bhuj–Naliya extension will streamline transportation for cement industries by offering faster, more efficient freight movement. The Naliya–Jakhau Port line, with a budget of ₹410.46 crore, will connect Jakhau Port to the national railway grid for the first time, easing cargo load currently handled by other major ports in the state.
Given its proximity to the India-Pakistan border and the Naliya Air Force Station, the new railway project also carries strategic importance, strengthening both trade infrastructure and regional security.
