Big Build Ahead: Ontario Moves Forward with Construction of CNG’s 456,000-Square-Foot Warehouse

Date:

Ontario, Ohio — A major construction push is underway as the city prepares for Charter Next Generation’s (CNG) upcoming 456,000-square-foot warehouse project at 631 Stumbo Road. The large-scale facility, to be developed by Industrial Commercial Properties (ICP), marks a significant step in redeveloping the former General Motors site and strengthening local industrial infrastructure.

The project had temporarily slowed after initial timelines were delayed, but Ontario officials have now approved the preliminary review application, enabling final site planning to begin. Freeman Building Systems has been appointed as the construction contractor, while Wolf Creek Design and Engineering LLC will lead the architectural and engineering work.

Once completed—expected between the third and fourth quarter of 2026—the warehouse will serve as a storage hub for finished blown-film goods, currently housed at CNG’s nearby plant. The expansion is expected to free up critical manufacturing space and improve overall operational efficiency.

The development also forms part of a broader revitalisation effort across the 2.5-million-square-foot former GM property, backed by $16 million in revenue bonds and tax incentives provided through the Richland County Port Authority.

Local leaders say the project will bring renewed economic momentum and serve as a catalyst for continued industrial growth in the region.
