Andhra Pradesh Accelerates Green Mobility with 750 Electric Buses

Date:

Andhra Pradesh is set to take a major step toward sustainable urban mobility with the induction of 750 electric buses into its public transport system under the PM-eBus Sewa initiative. The move reflects the state’s growing focus on clean energy, reduced emissions and improved commuter experience.

A significant share of these electric buses will be deployed in Visakhapatnam, strengthening the city’s public transport network while addressing concerns related to air pollution and fuel dependency. Other urban centres across the state are also expected to benefit from the modernisation of bus services.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has issued the Letter of Award to the selected operator, paving the way for the rollout of these zero-emission buses. Officials note that electric buses will help lower operational costs in the long run while offering quieter, smoother and more comfortable travel for passengers.

This initiative aligns with the central government’s broader push to replace ageing diesel fleets with electric alternatives across Indian cities. The transition is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and support India’s long-term climate commitments.

For Andhra Pradesh, the introduction of electric buses represents more than a fleet upgrade. It signals a shift toward cleaner infrastructure, future-ready mobility and inclusive urban development. As these buses hit the roads, commuters can expect a more efficient, eco-friendly and reliable public transport experience.
