AI to Drive India’s Infrastructure Revolution: Gadkari at Business Standard Summit

Date:

New Delhi: Speaking at the Business Standard Infrastructure Summit on August 21, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) is set to revolutionize the construction and operation of India’s infrastructure.

He announced that the government is exploring the implementation of AI in the construction of roads, bridges, and tunnels to enhance both efficiency and safety. Additionally, Gadkari mentioned making precast technology mandatory in road construction to streamline processes and improve quality.

Further highlighting the application of AI, Gadkari stated that AI tools would soon be used to detect landslide-prone stretches, waterlogging zones, and accident hotspots on national highways—a significant step toward bolstering road safety and reducing logistics costs.

In a related emphasis on AI’s role in planning, Gadkari called for the use of AI in preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) for highways, mining, and agricultural initiatives. He noted that AI can strengthen the accuracy and quality of DPRs—critical documents that underpin project design and approvals—and also help analyze road accident data and identify black spots.
