The Maharashtra government’s new plan to launch its own transport app is a welcome and exciting move. This app will help rickshaw, taxi and e-bike riders offer services under fair and clear rules. By creating a service possibly called ‘Jai Maharashtra’, ‘Maha-Ride’, ‘Maha-Yatri’ or ‘Maha-Go’, the state is helping to provide passengers with a reliable and safe alternative to private ride apps.
The government is working with the Transport Department, MITRA and the Maharashtra Institute for Transport Technology to make the app smart and open. It will follow rules from the central government to ensure transparency and trust.
Unemployed youth will get special loans at about 10% interest to buy vehicles and with an 11% subsidy, the loans become nearly interest-free. This will help many young people become independent and start earning.
A final meeting is scheduled for August 5, where all plans and details will be approved. This initiative shows that the state cares for passengers and young drivers alike.
