Telangana Launches Four New Airport Projects to Boost Regional Connectivity and Trade

Date:

Telangana is set to expand its aviation network with four new airport projects proposed in Peddapalli, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, and Kothagudem, aimed at strengthening regional air connectivity and stimulating economic growth.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated a pre-feasibility study for a greenfield airport at Anthergaon in Peddapalli, with the state government allocating ₹1 crore for the study. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has approved the Peddapalli site, and about 950 acres will be acquired for dual-use by both passenger and IAF aircraft. Terminals and separate air traffic control systems will be developed to manage civil and defense operations, with the airport capable of handling Airbus A320 aircraft.

Meanwhile, the Kothagudem airport project has been delayed after the identified land was found unsuitable, and the District Collector is now scouting alternative locations. Airports in Mahbubnagar and Nizamabad will be developed as domestic terminals to enhance connectivity with neighboring states and promote regional trade.

Taking inspiration from the success of Kadapa Airport in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana aims to drive industrial growth, tourism, and future air cargo operations through these strategic airport projects.
